So I was over at Rusty’s Blog and they have a cool website with a timeline of all the youtube videos. I checked out the “Mormon” timeline and the very first one was Mormon Rap. I remember when I was a kid and this first came out. I haven’t heard it for 20 years but it brought back good memories and a smile listening to it again. There are quite a few YouTube versions, but here’s a good one if you’re up for some reminiscing. If you’ve never heard it before, be warned…it’s cheesy, but fun if you know the Mormon “lingo.”
Have fun!

I posted this just for fun the other day and who’d of thought it would be mentioned in an article by the Deseret News’ “Mormon Times” online. If you read at the very end she links my “Mormon Rap” post to her article.

This is just about the silliest and funniest thing I have seen in a long time. This is the first time I have seen this video or heard this song. This was before I joined the Church a few years ago. Who ever said that Mormons were boring and unimaginative? I saw Napoleon Dynamite a couple of years ago. I was shaking my head at this movie and smiling. Only Mormons could make nerdiness look cool. Thanks for the video.

Mormon, Mormon rap . . . so catchy, even so many years later. Have you seen the Apostle Song? I’ll post it on my blog some time.

I got a kick out of signing the “Mormon Rap” as a kid. However, I had no clue there have been videos made. I’m curious about who originally came up with the rap and I wonder where they are today….

I was wondering where the guy who made the video is! If this video is 20 years old (and I have no doubt that it probably is!), then the guy should be about 40. I think a “remake” would even be MORE HILARIOUS!
Thanks, Aaron! And welcome to the life of FAME!

Oh YEAH baby!
If I recall correctly, this was the big hit of ’84. Don’t you love the kitchy location used for the video? So perfect! It could have been my house or my inlaws…
In fact, think all good Utah mormons in the ’80s had at least one room (usually in their basement) with that ever practical (yet hideous) “wood panneling”
Truth is, most still do! LOL
Thanks for sharing this blast from the past – and congrats on your BackBench spotlight! 🙂

I have to agree with Jay. This video is nauseating. I never once stopped and considered Jay’s fine sensibilities, and for that I am truly sorry. But alas! My friend posted it to YouTube and the damage is done!
