A couple years ago, I wrote a post titled Does God Want Us to Be Rich? In that article, I concluded that as long as our hearts are first, placed on building the kingdom, then strengthening our own faith, and then the lives of others, that God does indeed want us to be rich. I also share an experience where God blessed me with a lot of money at that time as a result in putting Him first.
The other day, someone left a comment on that post that they, as a Chrisitan have faith in God and a desire to earn $180,000 to bless the lives of other people. They then asked the following question:
…can we ask for something specific (say $180,000)? Will God honor that request, or will He wait until we’re ready to receive it because He doesn’t want us to squander it?
I’m not God, so that is a heavy question since God knows the intentions of their hearts. However, from my experience, God can answer specific prayers and the more specific the better. It depends on a few things such as 1. If it is His will 2. If their hearts are ready to receive it 3. If they are willing to put in the work and effort to raise it.
Those are my thoughts, but I’m confident that many of you who read this can further help with this question. What experiences or advice do you have?

God may want some people to have $180,000, but apparently he doesn’t want that for me . . . Actually, I think it just basically comes down to #3. It may sound harsh, but I don’t think He really cares about that.

Hi Michelle,
I think you’re probably right that He doesn’t care what amount of money we have. However, I think He does care about our happiness and also that we lift up those who are around us.
If we have enough money to support ourselves, don’t you think He would then like to bless us with more money to bless the lives of those around us?

I have been blessed with abundant money. It was for a reason. I tell my grandchildren that if they want to be rich they must pay tithing and generous fast offerings.

Hi Kris,
Very good counsel. Do you attribute your wealth soley to tithing and fast offerings?

Kris, whenever I’ve blessed others, God has always blessed me right back within days. I pay tithes every Sunday based on my faith at that time, not based on 10%. I know my faith waivers like the ocean wave, so my tithes waivers too. I’m working on that. Was it only through your faithfulness of tithing that God blessed you abundantly or did you work for the money?
God is teaching me now about “resting in Him”, but I find the word rest to be very difficult, especially when I’ve had to work for what I want.
So I’m just trying to wrap my mind around what God wants me to do: to work or to rest.

can I have some of that wealth Kris? I am a capitalist of the highest order, but that doesn’t mean I don’t wish that I could share the wealth in an honest way.
