Kudos to the people over at the TimesandSeasons blog! They were featured in the Salt Lake News Tribune last week as naming Harry Reid “Mormon of the Year.”
While I completely disagree with his politics, I can see how he could have that title. He has definitely caused a big stir this year and has been in the headlines frequently for wanting to push the healthcare bill along. Most recently, he was under fire for his comments about Barrack Obama’s skin color.
Others in the running for Mormon of the Year were: Glenn Beck, Stephanie Meyer, Jon Huntsman Jr., and others. My personal vote would have gone to Glenn Beck. I think he has caused even more of a stir than Reid has this past year. He was featured on the cover of Time magazine back in September too.
Any way you look at it, there were quite a few LDS people making news last year.

Well, I wonder if politics have already entered into the equation.
As you said, we should be able to discern a man’s character and judgment, despite politics. It’s one thing to be of a particular opinion and it’s another thing to be an active practitioner of deceit and slander.
Harry Reid is up for re-election to the Senate, isn’t he? Although an incumbent politician of importance, he now faces an uphill battle for re-election. How nice that a fellow mormon is putting a nice face on a man who tried every trick to silence the opposition and foist socialism on America. That is what I call “farding in our general direction.”

That is exactly why I like him. I would like him even better if he was actually trying to do those things.

Harry Reid’s legacy will forever remain a blight on the Church’s reputation.

Why are these top candidates for “Mormon of the Year” all famous and rich? No great lovers or sacrificers or peacemakers! I know common humble members who could do much more even great things for the masses. Where are the prophets and women mothering in great difficulty in this top 10? I am scared for our people and am almost crying over these people of deceptive politics. Am I wrong?

Hi Erik,
I don’t know very many people at all who support Harry Reid and Glenn Beck has a huge fan base but also just as many people who don’t like him. He’s pretty polarizing.
I’m not the one who came up with the list. I’m just spreading the word about the blog who ranked them.

I just don’t enjoy politics that much. How about Austin Collie for Mormon of the Year? He’ll be playing in the Super Bowl….

MH,
I love it! Even though Collie’s a Mormon I’m still cheering for the Saints!

I agree Molly.
There is a rotten person on Y.T., that attacks Mormons all the time.
My banker is a Mormon, they are nice to the Jewish people, at least someone is.
I know that all Mormons are going to get a special blessing for not treating some of us Jews like Judenrat.
